High school bass fishing is an up and coming sport throughout the state of Florida. Jason Foss, a teacher at Oviedo High School in Seminole County, grew up loving bass fishing and jumped at the opportunity to be one of the first to form a team in the Central Florida area. The Seminole Junior Anglers organization started as club sport at Oviedo High, and has now grown into a not for profit organization open to any angler attending a Seminole County (or surrounding area) school. It is centered toward high school aged anglers who want to begin competing in fishing tournaments at the next level. Seminole Junior Angler’s season runs parallel to the school year from August to June, and consists of twelve to fifteen tournaments a year through the FLW High School Fishing Trail, B.A.S.S. Nation High School events, and other local high school fishing teams.

In addition to getting experience with competitive bass fishing tournaments, the student anglers also get exposure to the sponsorship, marketing and business side of the fishing industry. Each monthly team meeting includes a guest speaker to give insight into how to get into college bass fishing, market your self on social media, etc. Additionally, each year the Seminole Junior Anglers partner with Mud Hole Custom Tackle to host a rod building class fundraiser where the anglers,  friends and family learn how to build a fishing rod which they can later use in their fishing tournaments. Their goal each year is to raise enough money in sponsorships, fundraisers, and donations to send the top performing teams to the B.A.S.S. High School State finals.
